Vi Vian's Malaysian Supperclub

At the weekend, Vi Vian kindly invited some of us over for Yu Sang and some home cooking, which included some of her dishes found at her supperclub :)

When we arrived, the table was already laid out with some colourful dishes, all prepared and handmade from scratch.

This included BBQ pork puffs, kuih rose, peanut filled cookies and pork gyozas, not to forget the main dish - Yu Sang.

Never heard of Yu Sang? It's where you have particular foods, which represent different but good things. Chopsticks at the ready, you then mix the ingredients together but are meant to hold it as high up as possible. The higher you hold it, the more prosperous you will be :)
Here's a video of what happened:

We made more of a mess than prosperity but it tasted amazing :)  Made with shredded vegetables, deep fried Chinese dough bread, soy sauce, sesame oil and smoked salmon, it's also known as a fish salad. Want to know the story behind it? You can read more here.

Dairy-free Chocolate Caramel Shortbread Recipe

With my love for chocolate and caramel and biscuits, I thought I'd make my own Twix like dessert. Using my go to shortbread recipe, melted chocolate and Hey Boo's coconut caramel, you can whip up this treat in no time :)

Ingredients 150g of sifted plain flour 100g sunflower spread 50g caster sugar
50g dark chocolate 3 tbsp of Hey Boo Coconut Caramel sauce
How to make: Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 3 / 170 degrees.  To make the shortbread, place the flour and butter into a mixing bowl and breadcrumb. Add in the sugar and mix in by hand. Place in a baking tin (I chose a 20cm round tin) and press down with the back of a spoon so it's even. Bake for 10-15mins or until lightly golden just around the edges.   Transfer the shortbread to a cooling rack. Once cool, spread the caramel sauce over the shortbread biscuit. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of boiling water. Make sure the water does not touch the bowl. Spread the melted chocolate over the shortbread and place in the fridge …

The Bloggers Hangout Fashion Week

I was really excited about going to this event as it'd be my first fashion one. I was so excited I got the dates wrong and almost turned up 2 weeks early - I even dressed up in all black!
I decided to take my sister along with me as she really enjoyed the last bloggers hangout event. It took a little while to find the venue but once we found the place, there were loads of people packed into the arched hall.
Starting with the nearest stall by the door, we tried The Hawaiian Fish Company, who were serving Hawaiian food made with rice, tuna sashimi, pineapple and topped with poke seeds, the multi-textured combo reminded us of durian and rice (Malaysian thing). What worried me was being told that the tuna had been picked up fresh from Billingsgate Market that very Monday morning.. Billingsgate market doesn't open on Mondays.. or Sundays.. (despite being told that the tuna was picked up on Sunday). So that kind of put me off the finishing the fish.
There were queues everywhere so we …
